Join Chicago Blackhawks alum Jamal Mayers, the Learning Technology Center, and EVERFI as they introduce the Future Goals – Hockey Scholar program. Educators will learn about and gain access to a free online course relating math and science concepts to the exciting game of hockey.
Whether your district is returning to school under a hybrid model, full remote learning, or traditional in-person instruction, this program will conserve your time while keeping students engaged with STEM and career exploration. Jamal and the Blackhawks will also be sharing info on upcoming virtual events and opportunities for students!

The National Hockey League (NHL), the Chicago Blackhawks, and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) have partnered to launch the Future Goals program, a North-American initiative with a focus on STEM in sports to provide K-12 students with STEM education.
In partnership with EVERFI, the nation’s leading critical skills education platform, the Future Goals Program teaches important skills with a STEM sports curriculum that helps prepare kids for success in life. Using the fast-paced, exciting game of hockey as a STEM learning vehicle, the program helps students understand the real-world applications of science and math principles.
Hockey Scholar™ promotes STEM education with the following topics:
- Engineering behind equipment
- Calculating ice surface area and volume
- Circumference, area of circles, radius & diameter
- States of matter & phase changes
- Examination of mass, velocity and kinetic energy
- Manipulating variables to run experiments
- Data analysis and drawing conclusions
