Creating Digital Curriculum with CK-12 Workshop

Would you like to integrate more meaningful digital resources into your STEM curriculum, but have no budget to do so? CK-12 is an excellent Open Educational Resource that is free and easy to use. Digital resources include PLIX interactives and simulations, adaptive practices, study guides, and FlexBook digital textbooks. CK-12 FlexBooks are online platforms for assembling, authoring, and distributing interactive, multi-modal educational content. FlexBooks can be downloaded and used as-is, or can be customized by teachers to match their students’ learning styles and their school’s curricula. Inside each book, chapters can be rearranged, added, removed, and edited. FlexBooks can be shared, for free online, by email, or on platforms including Facebook and Twitter or through Google Classroom. All FlexBooks are aligned to national and state curriculum guidelines, Common Core Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards.
Joe Cipfl is a Regional Educational Technology Coordinator for the Learning Technology Center (LTC), an Illinois State Board of Education program that delivers technology and educational services to all K-12 school districts in the state. He facilitates professional learning events regionally; provides consultation and support to school districts related to digital learning, technology integration, and technology infrastructure; and develops instructional materials for educators throughout the southern Illinois region and the state.
Joe is a veteran educator in both K-12 and higher education in the areas of science and technology and is a frequent presenter on instructional and educational technology. He is a certified teacher, a certified school administrator, and certified Google Educator. Before his role as Regional Coordinator, Joe was a science/technology teacher, university instructor, and building-level technology coordinator.
