Essential Digital Literacy for Teachers and Librarians

Mon. September 16, 2024 | 8:30 am - 2:00 pm CDT

In today’s evolving digital landscape, educators and librarians must understand various literacies to effectively support and guide their students. From general media literacy to understanding AI, this spectrum of essential knowledge is expanding, making it crucial for teachers to stay informed and adept in these areas.

Join us as we delve into the critical literacies that every modern educator needs to understand, including:

AI Literacy: Understanding the basics of artificial intelligence, its applications in education, and how to prepare students for a future where AI plays a significant role.
Computer Literacy: Ensuring educators and students are proficient in using computers, understanding hardware and software, and navigating operating systems.
Digital Literacy: Developing the skills to effectively and safely navigate the digital world, including understanding digital footprints, privacy, and cybersecurity.
Media Literacy: Teaching students to critically evaluate media content, recognize bias and misinformation, and create responsible media.
Reading Literacy: Fostering strong reading and comprehension skills that can adapt to both digital texts and traditional printed literature.

In this session, we will also explore practical strategies and tools for integrating these literacies into your teaching practice. You will gain insights into how to make these literacies accessible and engaging for students, preparing them for the multifaceted challenges of the 21st century.
