Ben Sondgeroth

Ben Sondgeroth, Regional Educational Technology Coordinator. Ben began his career as a history teacher in Morrison, IL where he initiated and coordinated the district’s iPad pilot program, redesigning the curriculum to effectively integrate the new technology. During this time, he developed a passion for sharing with other teachers exciting new ways to use technology in education.

That passion led Ben to be a national Instructor and presenter, allowing him to work with thousands of educators every year across the country. Now working for the Illinois Learning Technology Center, his focus is on helping schools and districts in Illinois leverage digital learning effectively. He has presented at regional and national conferences such as FETC, ISTE, ICE, and many more. He holds a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Technology Education Reform (University of Illinois) and a Bachelor’s Degree in History Education (University of Indianapolis).

Brian Bates

Brian Bates is the Digital Learning Coordinator for the Learning Technology Center of Illinois (LTC). Brian leads and develops events, programs, and resources in support of digital learning, digital citizenship, emerging technologies, instructional issues and trends, technology integration, and teacher practices for educators across the state.

Prior to joining the LTC, Brian spent nine years at the middle school level as a math and science teacher, integrating technology into his classroom through the use of Chromebooks, flipped/blended learning practices, authentic assessment, and self-paced instruction. After leaving the classroom, he coordinated and facilitated professional learning activities at the regional level. He holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, both from Western Illinois University. Brian works out of the Regional Office of Education #33 in Galesburg.

Nicole Zumpano

Nicole Zumpano, Regional Educational Technology Coordinator. Nicole is a National Board Certified Teacher as well as an adjunct professor at three universities. Within her 26 years in education, Nicole has served on two board of directors and has been nominated for and/or received several awards for excellence in teaching. She has 15 years of classroom experience along with 10 years of instructional coaching experience. Nicole holds Masters degrees in Administration & Supervision and Technology in Education. She is a Google for Education Certified Trainer, a Google Certified Educator, and an Apple Teacher. Nicole blogs about instructional technology at Zumpanotechlab.blogspot.com

Tim McIlvain

Tim McIlvain directs the Learning Technology Center, where he provides strategic leadership, expertise, and operational management for technology and digital learning initiatives. Primary areas of focus include technology infrastructure, personalized and digital learning, data security and student safety, equity and access, and industry and community partnerships.

Tim presents on educational technology topics and serves in leadership roles on several boards and committees. He is a National Board Certified Teacher, Google Trainer and Administrator, Certified Educational Technology Leader (CETL), and Microsoft Innovative Educator. Before his role as Director, Tim was a teacher, project manager, and web developer.
