Managing an Expanded Tech Toolkit

As we plan for the 2021-2022 school year, many districts have more instructional technology resources in their toolkits than ever before. But how do we ensure that these tools are being leveraged effectively in the classroom and aren’t just more “sit and get” materials. Join the Newsela team and Lucas Cowden, Technology Manager at Kildeer Countryside School District 96, for an engaging discussion on how he ensures technology tools are used to drive learning and engagement. Lucas will share how his district selects technology products to add to their toolkit and how his team coaches teachers to find creative ways to use tech tools in the classroom so they don’t become another “sit and get” tool. Then, using Newsela as a specific case study, Lucas will share how he selected the product, developed success criteria to ensure Newsela would make an impact on learning, and collaborated with his instructional technology coaches to roll out Newsela and train staff. Finally, he’ll share challenges and successes from his expanded technology toolkit during the 2020-2021 school year and changes he plans to make for the upcoming year.
