History

Kami began in 2013 when, in their final year at university, Hengjie, Jordan, and Alliv created Notable.ac, a note-taking web app. Bob Drummond was a mentor in the University 100K Challenge, where the trio was recognized as finalists. Quickly evolving into Notable PDF, an annotation app for PDFs, the platform reached over one million annotations within months.

By 2018 Kami had Six million users, and the team grew to start with a few based in Auckland, New Zealand, Kami expanded internationally, reaching the United States and the Philippines.

Amidst the madness of 2020, we made Kami totally FREE so teachers and students could keep up, no matter their situation. By May, we supported over 10M users and ended the year with over 20M across 180 countries.

2021 brought with it a new normal, and the Kami team has rapidly doubled in size, with Kami-leons spanning over five different countries. During this time, we focused on adapting the Kami platform to keep up with the demands and needs of its thriving community. With new advancements, Kami was recognized as the fastest-growing company in NZ.
2022 rang in with the milestone of hitting the big 30 Million user mark and being featured in the Time100 Most Influential Companies list! Our incredible team is now over 70 members strong. Kami team members are a diverse group of individuals whose main focus is making your Kami experience the best it can be.
